Official discharge from neonatal care

Today is a day of celebration in our household, for after 2 long years our daughter has finally been discharged from neonatal care. Born at just 24 weeks, she spent 150 days in 4 different hospitals before coming home in November 2019. She battled metabolic bone disease, chronic lung disease, sepsis and meningitis. She was readmitted in December 2019 and spent her first Christmas recovering from bronchiolitis.

We’ve been lucky since then and only had one visit to hospital for compromised breathing and one visit to emergency care for a query broken arm. But it’s been a long journey and to have that confirmation that she is developing well and that there are no concerns at the moment is so reassuring. She could have won an Olympic Gold today we’re so proud of how far she’s come.

Then…

And now

My name is Amy and I live in London with my husband and our two little ones. Our second was born unexpectedly at 24 weeks on a family holiday. This blog is about those crazy things that life becomes filled with when you become a mum to a preemie. It's about what they mean to me, how I feel, what my short-term and long-term emotional responses are, and how I am changing as a result of all these new experiences. It's also about how many of those experiences are shared by other preemie parents, or parents whose children are sick.
